Now that you've customized your Profile, it's time to add a link to it on your blog so friends and readers can follow you. Followers will see your recent activity on their own TypePad Dashboards, so making your Profile easy to find is a simple but effective way to share your content.

To enable the Follow module in a Basic template, just go to Blogs > Design > Content and look for Follow Me under the Modules heading at the top. When you click "Add This Module," you'll be able to choose whether or not you want to show your follower and following counts.

We suggest placing the module near the top of your sidebar so it's easy to find. Below is an example of how the module looks on a real blog.

A widget is a piece of content or functionality provided by a third party that you can place in the sidebar of your TypePad blog. Technically, it's a snippet of HTML and/or JavaScript that you can manage like any other sidebar content module on your blog.

Installing a Widget
Many widget providers will offer a quick install to TypePad option. Feedburner - including the email subscription widget - and WidgetBox are two of the services which offer a quick install to TypePad.

Other widget providers may provide you with HTML code to add to your blog. Using the Embed Your Own HTML module at Design > Content, you can add the code to your blog's sidebar.

One of the most important features of your Profile is that it allows you to share your blog activity and links to your social media accounts such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Adding those sites to your Profile is extremely easy.

To share your blogs, just go to the Edit Profile page and look under Your Blogs. There, select the blogs from your account that you'd like to show. Activity from the selected blogs will show on your followers' Dashboards and in your Recent Activity stream on your Profile.

We'd like to take the next few days to help you get acquainted with your TypePad Profile. Your Profile is a one-page overview of your life here on TypePad, with links to your blogs and social media accounts, information about you, and an activity stream with your blog posts, comments, and favorites. It also feeds content into your followers' activity streams on their own TypePad dashboards, so it's a great way to help your friends and readers keep up with your new posts.

To get started, click on your name in the green navigation bar at the top of any page in your TypePad account. This will bring you to your public TypePad Profile. You can see ours here.

If you click to the Edit Profile page, you can add information about yourself like your location, a one-line bio, and your interests. This helps others get to know you at a glance. You can make this information as specific and complete as you'd like, or limit it to just information that's directly related to your blog. It's always up to you. Here's what ours looks like:

Keep It Simple: Style Link Text

TypePad makes it easy to add links to your blog. Use the Insert Link button when composing a post or page. Create a blogroll for your sidebar using a Links TypeList.

Links need to stand out from the rest of the text on your blog to highlight the fact the text is actually a link to other relevant content. Changing the color of links, adding an underline to links, and changing the appearance of links when you hover over them are easy with TypePad.

The color and style applied to the links on your blog is determined by the theme applied.

Profile Week: Give Your Profile a Custom URL

Right now, when you view your profile, the URL might have a long string of numbers. Not ideal, right? Instead, why not give your Profile a URL that reflects your brand or name? It's super easy.

Start by going to the Edit Profile page inside your account. There, look for the Profile URL section and replace the existing URL with the one you want to use. Then just scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page to save your changes. That's it! Here's a screenshot of what to look for:
